India’s rising star Mohammed Siraj was crowned World’s No.1 bowler in the ICC ODI rankings on Wednesday, following sensational performances in the home series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. From being trolled by fans for not picking up any wickets and high economy rate in the IPL matches to becoming the No.1 bowler in ODIs, Siraj has proved himself in his long journey. Indian pacer has 729 rating points in the bowler’s rankings and narrowly leads Australia’s Josh Hazlewood by two rating points.

Siraj became only the third Indian bowler after Jasprit Bumrah and legendary Kapil Dev to claim the top spot in the ICC rankings. The 28-year-old pacer was the most successful Indian bowler in the 50-over format in 2022, picking up 24 wickets in 15 matches at an economy of 4.62. He spearheaded the bowling attack for the Men in blue in the three-match series against Sri Lanka and emerged as the highest wicket-taker by scalping 9 wickets.

Siraj has undoubtedly become a consistent performer for team India. India skipper Rohit Sharma lauded Siraj for his exceptional comeback. Rohit admitted that Siraj has got so much skill to swing the ball and get early wickets. Fellow India pacer Mohammed Shami jumped 11 places to 32nd overall in the rankings.

Among batters, young opener Shubman Gill climbed to sixth position, following his world record double ton against the Kiwis. Gill surpassed Virat Kohli who is now 7th in the rankings. Rohit who smashed a century nearly after three years is now 9th in the rankings.
