India secured a comprehensive 188 runs win over Bangladesh on the final day of the first Test in Chittagong. India leads the two-match series 1-0 after registering a comfortable victory. Team India has boosted its chances of making it into the next year’s ICC World Test Championship with a triumph over gritty Bangladesh. Chasing a mammoth target of 513, the hosts were bowled out for 324 on Day 5. For India, Axar Patel starred with a four-wicket haul while Kuldeep Yadav picked up three.

Zakir Hasan and Shakib Al Hasan top-scored for the hosts in the second innings scoring 100 and 84 runs respectively. Despite the resilience shown by the hosts’ batting lineup, Indian bowlers did brilliant work to bundle out Bangladesh and registered a victory by a big margin.

Resuming on an overnight score of 272/6 in their second innings, Bangladesh lost the wicket of Mehidy Hasan (13) early in the opening session. Captain Shakib, who played an entertaining inning, departed after Kuldeep rattled the middle stump as Shakib tried an aerial stroke. Yadav bowled a beauty by tossing it up on the leg to strike in his first over.

Kuldeep then dismissed Ebadot Hossain for a duck before Axar cleaned up Taijul Islam for a duck in the next over to finish off things. Kuldeep was adjudged the player of the match for his excellent comeback with the ball. KL Rahul recorded his first win as captain. The second Test will kick off on December 22 at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.
