Delhi Capitals will begin their IPL campaign against five-times champions Mumbai Indians on 27th March at the Brabourne Stadium. Delhi Capitals has emerged as a strong contender to challenge other stalwarts for the past few seasons. In 2019, Delhi Capitals reached the playoffs stage for the first time in seven years and since then, they have made it a routine. The Rishabh Pant-led side remains one of the only three sides yet to lift the IPL trophy.
Delhi Capitals’ pack attack has been stunning and lethal in the past. Bowling duo of Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada had ruled the roost for DC. Delhi Capitals were forced to part ways with Rabada due to limit on retentions. However, Delhi franchise picked up left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya. Sakariya had been one of the most consistent performers and took 14 wickets for Rajasthan Royals last year.
The young bowler is expected to start the pace attack alongside Nortje. Indian senior pacer Shardul Thakur will play a crucial role for Pant. Khaleel Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman would bring significant experience in the pace bowling attack. Delhi Capitals had quality spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin and Amit Mishra over the last couple of seasons. But Delhi will be missing their services this season.
However, Delhi retained left-arm orthodox bowler Axar Patel and bought another left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav to add some strength to their squad. Kuldeep has been hardly inspiring as he is not in his prime form. Delhi Capitals’ spin-attack has domestic players like Vicky Ostwal and Pravin Dubey, who are yet to perform and prove themselves in the IPL.
