India desperately fought hard to get that one last wicket but failed to get the same. The situation went worse for team India as bad lights came into play and forced umpires to call for early stumps. Finally, India and New Zealand settled for a draw at Green Park. Debutant Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel did a brilliant job holding the fort for their side. Both showed excellent resistance and played with good defence. The Kiwis managed to score 165/9 at stumps.

RavindraJadeja was the stand-out bowler for India with figures of 4/40. While RavichandranAshwin bagged three, Axar Patel and Umesh Yadav picked up one each. All the cricketing fans witnessed an exciting thriller on the final day. While the Kiwis required 280 runs to win, India needed nine wickets to seal the first test.

Tom Latham along with night watchman William Somerville frustrated the Indian bowlers in the morning session. Both added 76 runs for the second wicket. Yadav provided the much-needed breakthrough by dismissing Somerville (36). Ashwin clean bowled Latham, who top-scored for the Kiwis with his fighting 52-run knock. Ashwin (419) became the third-highest wicket-taker for India in Test Cricket.

India put pressure on the Kiwis by removing Ross Taylor and Henry Nicholls in back-to-back overs. A few minutes later, Jadeja made a huge impact by dismissing the New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson (24). Though Jadeja ran through the Kiwis’ lower-order, team India had no answer to get the final wicket.

Debutant ShreyasIyer received the player of the match award. Iyer rescued India in both the innings with his blistering knocks (105 & 65). India and New Zealand will begin their final battle on 3rd December at Wankhede Stadium.
